Hong Kong - Where to eat?

Welcome to Hong Kong, a dynamic fusion of East and West. This vibrant metropolis charms with its iconic skyline, bustling markets, and culinary delights. I visited Hong Kong for one weekend, and here are my favorite restaurants:

CHICANO I enjoyed dining at Chicano, a Mexican haven that transported my taste buds back to my Mexican road trip in 2017. From the moment I walked in, the vibrant decor and lively atmosphere set the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. If you're into Mezcal, go for the 'Chapulin Colorado' cocktail. You'll not be disappointed. Every dish we tried was a hit, from the tostada de ceviche de pulpo to the mouthwatering chile verde pork belly. The staff's warmth and knowledge of the menu make the experience even more enjoyable. For an authentic taste of Mexico and a genuinely satisfying meal, Chicano is the place to be.

- Margarita: 118 HKD / € 13,80

- A plate of tacos al pastor: 168 HKD / € 19,65

MAN MO The menu at Man Mo is a harmonious blend of traditional dim sum favorites infused with French culinary finesse. The delicate dumplings, filled with delightful ingredients, are a testament to the kitchen's expertise. Try the French Peking duck, Tom Yum, truffle brie dim sum, and fice spices lamb bun. These were definitely our favorites! The only 'negative' thing about this place for me was the music. It didn't match the vibe. I'm sorry, I'm very detail-minded regarding restaurants because I have opened up four myself. (: (I don't want to drag about it, but when you're passionate about something, you know all the details). On the other hand, this is not a 'hipster' place. It's a typical, cozy restaurant with a French kiss.

Prices:

- 2 pieces of French Peking duck dim sum: 78 HKD / € 9,10

- 2 pieces of truffle brie dim sum: 62 HKD / € 7,25

- A glass of wine: 80 HKD / € 9,40 Location: HK island

HONKY TONKS Honky Tonks boasts a menu of delicious comfort food that perfectly complements the lively atmosphere. From finger-licking wings to hearty burgers, the menu satisfies cravings while setting the stage for an unforgettable night out. The cocktail menu is good, but not wow, if I can be this honest?! Try the chicken tenders with blue cheese sauce; they were tasty and perfect as appetizers. For a vibrant and dynamic night out in Hong Kong, Honky Tonks is the place to be.

Prices:

- Chicken tenders: 95 HKD / € 11,10

- Cocktails: 100 HKD / € 11,70 Location: HK island

COA Ranked number 1 best cocktail bar in Asia 2023, this place knows everything about serving high-quality cocktails. COA uses only the finest ingredients, resulting in cocktails that are as delectable as they are innovative. This is a Mexican-inspired cocktail bar, so expect lots of mezcal and tequila. Unfortunately, they don't have a reservation system. So if you want a table in this high-demand place, you must go when they open their doors at 6 pm. We went at 7 pm on a Saturday and put our names on the list but had no luck getting any seats.

Prices:

- Cocktail: around 120 HKD / € 14,20 Location: HK island

LUNG FU PAO Indulge in a culinary journey to Japan at Lung Fu Pao. From the moment you step in, the ambiance transports you to the heart of Tokyo. The menu boasts an array of sushi, sashimi, and lots more. I surprised my sushi-loving husband with dinner at this restaurant. I'm not a sushi fan, but I became one when I tasted the dragon roll. Order a bottle of sake and enjoy a dynamic evening out.

Prices:

- Dragon roll: 188 HKD / € 22

- Premium selection sashimi boat: 598 HKD / € 69,95

- Udon noodles: 58 HKD / € 6,80

- 400 ml sake: 350 HKD / € 41

BAKED Where sourdough takes brunch to a whole new level, we absolutely loved the toast named 'Live your best life': eggs benedict with basil-infused hollandaise sauce and the 'Oh my God' toast with portobello mushrooms and black truffle. By the way, their sourdough starter is more than 53 years old. (;

Prices:

- Live your best life sourdough toast: 165 HKD / € 19,30

- Oh my God sourdough toast: 185 HKD / € 21,60

- Cappuccino: 40 HKD / € 4,70

Location: they have 3 different locations on HK island.

SHAKE SHACK Seven years ago, I visited New York and enjoyed the delicious cheese & bacon fries with a burger. Because we had limited time to get our train back to China, and my husband had never tried this brand, we ordered fries & burgers. It's so yummy. Order the Sesame ice cream, and blend all the flavors; for sure, one of the best ice creams I have ever had.

Prices:

- Bacon cheese fries: 43 HKD / €5

- Cheapest burger: 58 HKD / € 6,80

- Sesame ice cream: 42 HKD / €4,90

Location: different locations all over Hong Kong

We stayed on Hong Kong Island, so these restaurants are all in this neighborhood. HK is full of great eateries, and there are many more restaurants I want to try. For example, 'Australian Diary.' You should definitely put this on your list too.

We live close to HK, so I'll update this list regularly.

Good to know: most of the restaurants in HK use a 10 % service charge above their prices on the menu.

I hope you enjoyed this & bon appétit.

Love,

Mimi
