Guizhou - Top Things to Do

Guizhou is a hidden gem in China, brimming with stunning landscapes, vibrant culture, and rich ethnic diversity. With its dramatic Karst mountains, enchanting waterfalls, and verdant valleys, this region is a paradise for adventurers and nature lovers alike. If you’re seeking an authentic experience away from the crowds, Guizhou is your perfect getaway!

Here are my favorite places in Guizhou:

ROCK CLIMBING

Ready for an adventure? Climbing a 165-meter-high rock on a Via Ferrata trail is an experience you won't forget! Everything feels super safe, thanks to a knowledgeable guide (though they only speak Chinese). It took me about two hours to reach the top, and I promise it’s worth it.

Make sure to wear comfortable clothes and sports shoes. While you definitely need a bit of fitness, I found it pretty manageable. A girl I met there wasn’t very sporty, and although she was tired, she pushed through and made it work!

This experience really shows how you can push your limits and achieve more than you think. Plus, the fun doesn't stop there—you can also kayak, hike, or mountain bike in the area! So go for it—you’ve got this!

Address: The Anlong National Mountain Outdoor Sports Demonstration Park, Lishu Village, Lushan Town, Anlong, Guizhou, China

If you want to extend your adventure, consider booking a night at Z·Cliff Hotel. You won’t be disappointed! They offer a stunning swimming pool with breathtaking views—perfect for unwinding after your climb. Enjoy the scenery and relax in style! For more information about the hotel, click here.

RAFTING THE MALING RIVER

If heights aren't your thing, wild water rafting might be more your style! No fitness level is required; just sit back, hold on tight, and let two skilled Chinese guides do the hard work for you. There are exciting rapids to keep things fun, and if you want to feel the thrill, aim for the summer months when the water is at its wildest.

You'll enjoy a thrilling 13.8-kilometer ride through the breathtaking Maling River Canyon. It's an incredible way to soak in stunning scenery while feeling the rush of the rapids.

At Maling River Canyon, you have two fantastic options: drift along the river at the bottom of the canyon or take a stroll on the man-made plank trail. But let’s be real, the canyon drift is where the excitement is! Just a heads-up: the best time to drift is from June to October. During this period, you can even catch sight of 13 waterfalls all at once from the main spot. It’s an experience you won’t want to miss!

Entrance Fees:

  • March to October: CNY 80

  • November to February: CNY 60

Elevator: CNY 30 for a round trip River Drift: CNY 198

Address: Maling River Canyon Scenic Area, Xingyi City, Qianxinan Prefecture. If you want to navigate to the location, just use "Malinghe Canyon Scenic Area"

Opening hours: 8 AM - 5 PM Time needed: 2 hours - half a day

Tips: Expect to get wet while rafting, so pack a change of clothes: short-sleeved shirts, shorts, and plastic slippers work great. The staff will transport your clothes downstream. Once you get off the boat, you’ll walk about 50 meters to pick them up and change into something dry.

Note: Rafting is open to kids over 1.2 meters tall and seniors under 65. If you have heart issues, high blood pressure, or are pregnant, it’s best to skip this activity.

Important: Each boat holds 10-12 people, with a minimum of 4 needed to float.

FENGLINBUYI VILLAGE SCENIC SPOT

Are you into culture? Then this is a must-do! Head over in the evening while there’s still some sunlight. You’ll get to see the place in daylight and then watch as it lights up spectacularly after dark, it’s truly beautiful!

When you’re there, you might feel like you’ve stepped into Disneyland. But what’s special is how China preserves these cultural sites to keep traditions alive. You’ll see people dressed in traditional clothing, dancing and singing old songs: it’s a cool experience. Don’t miss it!

Address: Fenglin Buyi Village, Xingyi City, Guizhou, China.

Opening Hours: 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM, but it's always a good idea to check locally for any updates or seasonal changes. Time needed: 2 hours - half a day.

Ticket price: is around €10. For those over 60 years old, be sure to mention your age or show your passport to secure a discount!

WANFENGLIN SCENIC AREA

If you’re already familiar with traveling in China, you might know about the stunning Karst mountains of Yangshuo. But here’s a little secret: Guizhou has them too—and even better, without the crowds! Don’t miss the cozy coffee shop for a well-deserved break!

Address: Wanfenglin Scenic Area, South of Xingyi, Xingyi 562400

Opening Hours: 08:00 AM - 05:30 PM Time needed: 2 hours - half a day

Ticket Prices:

  • Entrance Ticket: ¥80 (around €10)

I took this trip with China Daily, and I just had to share my love for this amazing area of China! I wrote this blog completely on my own because I want to show you all the beauty I experienced. They didn’t ask me to write anything, this is all from me to you! If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Love, Mimi
